City Entrance Gate Production
The form of the door is important in almost all religions and civilizations. The door of the sky, the door of the other world and sometimes the secret door that is the subject of mythology and legends, etc. However, although it does not have much function and meaning today, one of the doors that has an important place in history is the city gates.
City gates are generally defined as a part of the castle and wall where entrance and exit are made, and are also one of the most important elements for security and control purposes.
Door forms have survived from ancient times to the present day. The most important of these is the lion gate, one of the 5 gates in Hattusa, one of the most important capitals of the Hittites in our country. The reliefs and forms that have survived to the present day reflect that it was built during the most glorious periods of the Hittite Empire. We know that the lion figure seen in many structures is identified with the Hittites. The gate here is called the “lion gate” due to the lion statues on both sides. Lions are generally placed at entrance gates because they are scary. It is also believed that the lion had a spiritual protective function in ancient civilizations.
